Welcome...
The Linden Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with the Murphey Western Institute, Music City Texas, Inc., and the Cass County Championship Rodeo Association, invite you to attend the first annual Piney Woods Cowboy Gathering October 4-7, 2007.
Events include cowboy workshops, chuckwagon cooking, campfire serenades, music by Michael Martin Murphey, Don Edwards, Suzy Bogguss, Red Steagall, cowboy poetry by Waddie Mitchell, Carin Mari & Pony Express, John Schaffner Cowboy Poet, and the Texas State Symphony with Director Howard Hudiburg. There will also be a trail ride, a 2-day working ranch rodeo, western swing dancing, and kids mutton bust - something for the whole family.
The Piney Woods Cowboy Gathering is a fund raising event for the Murphey Western Institute's Western Legacy Library, the Cass County Rodeo Arena Building Fund and for the Music City Texas Theater.
Michael Martin Murphey, an East Texas native, recently announced the Murphey Western Institute will build the Murphey Western Legacy Library and Artist & Writers Retreat adjacent to the Music City Texas Theater and Cass County Rodeo Grounds in Linden
(Cass County).
The Murphey Western Institute is a 501(c) 3 organization with goals to "support education, research and artistic endeavors related to the preservation and perpetuation of the cultural and historic legacy of the American West."
You'll love the pines, hardwoods, lakes and streams, and small town atmosphere of Linden , Texas . This birthplace of musical giants is the hometown of Scott Joplin, Aaron "T-Bone" Walker, Don Henley - and Fred S. Martin, of Gene Autry's "Cass County Boys". The planned 42-acre campus of the Murphey Western Legacy Library will compliment the renowned Music City Texas Theater and the Cass County Rodeo Grounds as a family entertainment center. The City of Linden is also known as "Gateway to the Lakes" as it is centrally located between Wright-Patman Lake , Lake 0'the Pines, and Caddo Lake .
Linden , Texas is Eastern Texas lake country and a beautiful surrounding for a fun cowboy weekend full of western events.
Hope to see you in October!
